Belgian waffles

Belgian waffles are thicker and than other waffles, perfect for breakfast or brunch drizzled with maple syrup and topped with crispy bacon or sliced bananas.

For this recipe you will need a waffle iron.


  • 125g/4½oz plain flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp caster sugar
  • 150ml/¼ pint whole milk
  • 2 free-range eggs, separated
  • 40g/1½oz unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste
  • salt
